Ben Folds Five announce new crowd-funded album

Ben Folds, Darren Jessee and Robert Sledge are back together, and recording again for their first album since 1999’s The Unauthorised Biography of Reinhold Messner. The band parted ways in 2000, but reformed last year to record a few tracks for Folds’ retrospective collection The Best Imitation of Myself. Things must’ve gone well, because the trio have reformed for one last hurrah – a crowd-funded full-length which, judging from pre-release tracks Do It Anyway and Sky High, looks to be another awesome record.

The process is all being documented very publicly on Folds’ Facebook page, which has recently featured open discussion posts directed towards aspiring artists, as well as blogs concerning the new album. The as-yet-untitled album will be crowd-funded on PledgeMusic, with backers picking up signed versions of the CD and LP (as well as other merch) in exchange for their support. As of this post (day 2 of the campaign’s 60-day run), the album has already reached over 150% of its target, with nearly 3000 fans pitching in.
